A Louisiana Notice of Intent to Lien (also known as a Final Notice of Nonpayment) is a powerful tool to extend your LA mechanics lien filing deadlines private residential construction projects if a Notice of Contract wasn’t filed. This lien notice can be used by any potential lien claimant who didn’t contract directly with the owner, or material suppliers and equipment lessors who contracted directly with the owner.

If used, it needs to be sent at least 10 days before filing a mechanics lien claim. The typical deadline to file a LA mechanics lien is 60 days from either the filing of a Notice of Termination or if no Notice of Termination was filed, then from the substantial completion or abandonment of the work. If a Louisiana Notice of Intent is sent, this will extend the filing timeframe by an additional 10 days. This also informs the owner that if payment isn’t made a lien will be filed within that timeframe.
