About New Jersey Mechanics Lien Release Form

The New Jersey Mechanics Lien Release Form is used to cancel a lien that has already been filed on a private job. It’s most often used to release a lien claim after a lien claimant receives payment. However, they may also be released based on settlements, legal controversies, because they expired, or more.

New Jersey law requires that a lien cancellation is filed within 30 days after the lien is satisfied. Failure to release a lien could result in penalties for the lien claimant.

Pro tip: If the construction project where the lien was filing is a public job (and not a private job), you may need to use the New Jersey Discharge of Public Lien Form instead.
