We initially ordered cabinetry for a contractor in August then added items later in September. The contractor gave us a substantial down payment but has been dragging his feet when we sent an invoice for the balance and had all kinds of reasons why he hadn't sent the balance. He was unhappy about how a couple of things had come in and miscommunication of his expectation of a couple of items so on a balance due of $4004.34 we comp'd him in the amount of $2420.80. He then ordered additional items such as handles along with a few more items. We sent him an invoice of $2527.04 of which he informed me he was only sending a check in the amount of $1448.04. These are legitimate items and I'm wondering if you think this is a legitimate reason to lien his home that is now listed for sale? Nothing unethical or underhanded was done on our part and I feel that he should pay the amount due. Sincerely, KAte Knels...Read More

If a job started over a month ago and we missed our deadline to send the preliminary notice, but we want to protect the work done for a later invoice that is within our preliminary notice deadline, can we send a preliminary notice to protect the work done for that invoice specifically?
