I Had a contractor remodel my master bathroom, not to long after the job was finished. I start having water spots on my living room ceiling.I called the same contractor back to have him look at it . He said it was the new drain from the newly remodeled master bathroom. He had to cut big hole on the living ceiling to fix the drain pipe. So we start having the same problem about 6 month ago. We contacted the same contractor an he would give me different days he could come out to look at it, but then made excuses every time why he never showed up. We finally had a couple other contractors look at what’s going on. Ever contractor said it was because the waterproofing system wasn’t put in right an the right drain was not used . And the estimates for the leak to be fixed was up to 25,000 . We actually bought all the the materials an just ask the same contractor to just do the work ( labor) an fix the problem. He keeps making excuses they he is on really big jobs an to busy working right now . What should my next steps be . ...Read More

I am co owner of property and the other co owner had a ditch dug and piping put in without my knowledge or approval and then that owner was invoiced to his corporation more than the agreed upon verbal price and has advised the contractor that the price invoiced was not what was discussed prior to being invoiced and there was no written contract. I had a "mechanics lien" placed on my home in March 2022 (work was done in February). Long story short, the work was awful and they never finished the job bc we requested them to leave after they admitted to snooping around our home. The lien was in place for 6 months. Two months after the initial lien expired (November), they renewed it again but with added interest and fees (even though WV does not allow). Does this hold up? It was never signed off by legal counsel. I've been told by a real estate attorney that I should pursue a lawsuit since they destroyed my home, but I'd rather let it all settle on its own....Read More
I had a drainage system put in my basement. And I financed the job. However, the finance company released the payment to the contractor before I signed any type of paperwork stating the job had been completed to my satisfaction.
All they did was leave a voicemail saying they were going to release the money and released it before I heard the message.
I am still getting some water that the contractor is working on. My concern is the clock on my 6 months 0% financing has started before the job is truly complete.
I was under the impression the finance company needed a signed release of job completion. ...Read More

I’m a contractor in Wv, I was recently completing a job of building a garage for a women as per our contract. She stopped me before completing the work and wouldn’t let me return to finish the work. She still owes 9,000$ for the work to be completed but won’t let me complete the work. She is now stating that she got other contractors to give estimates on what needs fixed. Is it my right to have the names of each contractor and see their estimates first hand or do I just have to go by her word that I’m the one that owes $6,000 for the job to be finished? Also what is the best option, I told her I would by law need copy’s of each estimate and from who they are from but that I would be more than willing to fix/ complete the rest of the work that our contract constitutes. What should I do? Is there anywhere in Wv I can get free legal advice from? Thanks in advanced ...Read More
