A Notice of Intent to Lien is a document sent by someone who's performed work on your property but not been paid for that work. Essentially, it's a bit of a threat - it lets you know that if the sender isn't paid and paid soon - then they'll pursue a mechanics lien against your land. If this claimant was hired by someone other than you (i.e. like a general contractor or subcontractor), then it might be a good idea to sort out where the payment dispute began and how best to resolve it. Levelset has a great article for owners in your situation: I Just Received a Notice of Intent to Lien – What Should I Do Now? And, for a little foresight into how to deal with a lien filing (if one takes place):  A Mechanics Lien Was Filed on My Property – What Do I Do Now?

SO, i a am a contractor and i do basically everything for a plot that may need a service.I took a job to; paint the house and garage, remove all rotten wood and rep[lace it, demo and replace a fence,etc... Well the owners of the home, husband in-particular, have insisted they gave me a full down payment when they actually gave 3900 two weeks later 300 dollars. in our contract there was no dead lines and the owners would call me almost every day taking valuable time from my other jobs. long story short i demoed the fence completed two windows with brand new boards not just cut it back and they have fired me with zero cause that i know of other that " i lied" but the let me go and never allowed me to finish anything that i started. so they have asked for all 4200 then 3900 then 2800 then now 1300 back and demanding it in cash they cost me money because the husband was so threatening that i had to put two guys working 10 hrs a day on the weekend on overtime pay and then before all of those i wanted to get the fence and yard prepped first they refused to have anything but the house painted prior to any other work. they gave me a total of 4200 to pay a painter and supplies and labor hours on the phone because it would be threatening innuendos about the people he knew and kept repeating himself to his wife, the man has cussed me out on agreements made for the house with hi s wife and fired me and are demanding money back when i could come close to adding up all calls time lost on that specific job plus the time it took to have these conversations sometimes 3 to 5 time daily to the point he got so made that he went stayed at a hotel and left it to the wife and i to figure it out. very next day he responds smart icky and the wife and i were working find until Covid has home depot an Lowe's looking frantically for lumber yard because i making that even harder but like i said there never was a deadline a set order or ordering of the stuff would cost much more and to custom build, as soon as i said i could build it but that would add time and cost for labor he exploded again which was about the 8th time, in which his wife apologized. to brass tax i did work and was unable to finish the jobs that were half done it's my understanding that i do not owe them anything especially since they had said they had already hired lonesome else and they changed the payments from 3900+200 as down payment and then the last Friday of the following months 1666.66 leaving the job being finished a month prior to the completion and i only said that it was unusual to get a company's final payment after 1 month post completion for me that is a little weird unless its insurance, without any thing else said i get a call about how i'm a liar and he would give me 3000 at the end of July 31st and 2000 Aug. 28th so i dint know what to do I've got bit by a snake fired with zero cause threatened to a point that his wife apologized and because my painters were tied up from all the back in forth, paint house first no demo fence no trim the windows. do i owe any money even if receipts labor supplies and the 38 voicemails in 2 a a half weeks and the hr long conversations, don't add up to the down-payment. especially with no cause unable to complete started work an their down payment was 3900 intially as the contract states but he was just giving me 300 that next friday to make the remaining balance 5000. i never asked for the change in payment he did the 3k and 2 k one byhimself and his wife had written up the 1666.66 in in 3
