A Michigan Notice of Furnishingis required by any party who didn't contract directly with the property owner to secure mechanics lien rights. This notice should be sent to both the owner and the general contractor within 20 days of first providing labor or materials to the project. However, those who only provide labor to the project have 30 days to send the notice. It can still be sent late, but it will limit the amount of lien protection.
This type of preliminary notice is not required to be filed in any office, just delivered to the owner and GC by certified mail, with return receipt requested. You can download a free Notice of Furnishing template here.
