What do I need to do to represent myself to seek damages for unlicensed work?

GeorgiaChange OrdersConstruction ContractLawsuitLicensesNotice of TerminationRecovery OptionsSchedule of ValuesInsurance

I believe a person was impersonating as a licensed general contractor. When I verified the license in GA, the license belonged to a completely different individual. When I called the provided insurance carrier of the general contractor, the insurance company said the company did not have an active policy. Unsafe electrical and structural work has caused many problems but I do not know the proper legal process to follow. I believe a breach of contract seems correct however since the company has no verifiable information or entity, it actually sounds more like fraud and criminal negligence?

It is generally considered imprudent to represent oneself in court outside of small claims. If you are in need of specific advice for a current legal situation, you may want to consider reaching out to a licensed attorney in your state directly at their office. This forum is public, so it may not be the right place to discuss a sensitive legal issue. Levelset provides a list of attorneys in each state here: https://www.levelset.com/payment-help/experts/experts-by-state/ . From that directory you may find a law firm in your area to call privately.
