Unenforceable Contract

Is the contract I made with a company to do electrical work void or unenforceable if I discovered after the work was done, the LLC is inactive and the electrician falsely stated he was licensed and had insurance. The work done is substandard.

Generally, contracts with unlicensed Florida contractors will be unenforceable if the work they did requires a license. However, unlike some other states, an unlicensed FL contractor won't automatically have to disgorge all amounts they've received for the work. But, if their work is defective and the owner ends up making a claim against them, then an unlicensed contractor will face treble (triple) damages. Meaning, they may end up having to pay 3x the normal amount of damages for the dispute. If you've fallen victim to an unlicensed contractor and need to pursue a claim against them for defective work, it'd be wise to seek the counsel of a local Florida construction attorney. They'll be able to review your situation and advise on how best to proceed - and they'll have a lot more experience with the potential options for moving forward.
