To do a prevailing wage job, do we have to provide healthcare to our employees if we have less than 10 employees overall

CaliforniaPrevailing Wages

We are a small business in CA. We build custom cabinetry and we get invited to do all these big commercial jobs. Most of the time they are prevailing wage jobs. We do not offer healthcare and benefits because we have less than 10 employees. Are we still eligible for these type of jobs?

California's prevailing wage requirements don't set a benchmark for minimum number of employees - and, prevailing wage requirements will apply to all businesses providing work to a prevailing wage job site. Rather, if the required benefits aren't actually being paid, themselves - then the cash equivalent of those benefits must be paid. With that being said, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not an expert on the ins and outs of California's prevailing wage requirements. And, reaching out to a prevailing wage compliance specialist (like eBacon or Contractors Prevailing Wage) or to a local California construction attorney familiar with the state's prevailing wage requirements could provide a lot more clarity.
