Retainer question

Is 60% up front, 40% at finish seem reasonable for a complete kitchen remodel for material and install

My opinion is that 60% up front is way too much. I believe that payments should be made commensurate with progress, and I would not stroke a check for 60% of the contract amount before any work has been performed.

I can appreciate that the contractor might need some funds to purchase materials to get going, but 60% is way too much.
