I am a resident in a low income HUD apartment and have been doing what I thought was voluntary maintenance in this apt complex since I’ve moved in 6.5 years ago. Management knew what I was doing because they watched me. About two weeks ago I got in bad trouble for painting. They said I was in violation of the lease. No one said anything about it before and I told the district manager what I was doing a month earlier and he never said anything about it. I did this stuff because the property was so bad that they were in violation of their own lease and the residents had to suffer because of it. I’ve got about 150 hours invested in my efforts. I’m 60 years old and on disability. I did this stuff over time; an hour here or there because of my disability. Can I put a mechanic lien on this place since now I know they were just using me.
