Material Supplier prelim lien notice goes to who?

WashingtonPreliminary NoticeRight to Lien

For a material supplier, how do I know who I need to send a preliminary lien notice to? When my customer is the Subcontractor, I know I need to send one to the general contractor and the property owner. What if the general contractor is also the owner? Do I need to send one to the property owner if my customer is the general? Do I need to send one at all if my customer is the general and also owns the property?

To make sure that you have protected your future lien rights, I would recommend the following steps; File your prelim notices per the state requirements by sending a copy to the property owner, the GC, and also the funding source for the project. This will mean two copies will be sent to the same entity or individual (The GC and property owner). This is redundant, but it also assures that a mechanics lien, should you need to file one, can be filed without objection as you fully complied with the State's requirements by notifying the owner, GC, and lender that you are providing materials for the project.
