Is a Company "required" to obtain a Bond on a Public Project?

MissouriBond ClaimsPayment Bond

If we are supplying material to a Glass Co. on a public school project, and they say they do not have a Payment Bond, my question is: Is there a limit on a job before they are required to obtain a Bond? Thank you for looking into this matter for me! Sheri

On Missouri public works projects that exceed $50,000, the general contractor must provide a payment bond claim. But, for projects under that threshhold, it's entirely possible - if not probable - that there's no bond present. That number is set by RS MO 107.170(2).
