That's a really interesting question, but I'll admit this is a bit outside of our expertise at the Expert Center. While we discuss construction-related topics daily, we're experts in construction law and construction payment - and this is a bit more real estate-focused.

That being said, there are some great resources available online where those in the real estate industry might be able to provide a little more help here. For one, Bigger Pockets is an excellent resource for those looking to invest in real estate, and their site has countless forums where investors can ask questions and learn from each other about a multitude of topics - including how property is categorized and renting regulations. More on that here: Bigger Pockets Real Estate Investing Forums. Further, sites like Avvo.com and JustAnswer.com make it easy to ask questions and receive answers from licensed attorneys working in fields beyond construction.
