You have only one year in New Jersey to commence suit on a construction lien.

If you don't want to spend time and money filing suit, just let a certified commercial collection agency collect the balance on a contingency fee bases. My firm is licensed and bonded to collect in NJ. Best regards, Steve

The next step would be to file a lawsuit to enforce the lien against the property owner. You would also have to name the GC as a defendant as well due to the non-payment. In New Jersey, you have 1 year from your last date of work to file the lawsuit to enforce the lien. With respect to suing the GC, you may have 6 years or less depending on what your contract might say about any deadline to file a lawsuit.
