How will signing an unconditional progress waiver affect a lien we filed?

LouisianaLien ReleasesLien WaiversMechanics Lien

We filed a lien on a job for over $240k outstanding. We have a check on the way for $20k and the customer is asking us to sign an unconditional progress waiver once the payment has processed. However, we absolutely do NOT want to give up our lien rights on this job and the rest of the amount owed. Will signing the unconditional progress waiver affect our lien on the rest of the amount owed?

I would recommend against signing an unconditional lien waiver if you are have past due invoices. If you do decide to sign it, make sure it clearly identifies the amount you are being paid and the work you did for that payment. You should also carve out the $240k you are owed. This can be very tricky and I recommend you get help on this.
