How long does a third party company have to pay you after quitting

Rhode IslandConstruction Contract

My boss plans on holding my last 2 checks for 3 months and I was wondering how long he could actually wait because that doesn’t seem right

According to this resource from Patriot Software, it looks like Rhode Island employers must distribute paychecks to employees who quit by the employee's next payday - and the same is true for employees who are terminated. However, the Expert Center is generally for construction payment and construction law questions, rather than those in employment law. Since I'm no expert in Rhode Island employment law, it might be wise to consult a local employment attorney to ensure everything's done by the book.
