How do I find out if the person that filed the lien has filed a lawsuit to foreclose the lien in Maine

MaineLien ForeclosureMechanics Lien

The handyman who doing some work on my house in Maine (I am a Florida resident). He walked off the job in March after the pandemic was announced. He filed a mechanic's lien against me but I have not received anything else. As I understand it, he has to file an actual lawsuit withing 120 days. I haven't received any notice of a lawsuit but I expect I would have to be served. Can't get any information from the court. I don't know what to do.

Yes, when a lawsuit is filed, the defendant must generally be served. So, you should know if and when your contractor files a mechanics lien enforcement action. Additionally, you should be able to contact the county clerk of court in the county where that property is located - and they should be able to tell you if you're being sued. You may have to initiate an official records request, but the clerk should be able to walk you through that. Another option could be to search PACER (Public Access to Court Electronic Records). You can access PACER and search for you name, here: Search by Specific Court | PACER.

If he recorded a lien claim in the Registry of Deeds for the County in which the property is located, then you will want to take action at some point to have that claim discharged of record in the Registry. Otherwise, it could interfere with your efforts to refinance or sell the property, for example.
