I am the owner whom had fire claim with the insurance. We used their preferred vendors for the entire process. The restoration of our home went 5 months over our relocation budget, was not to specifications we requested, unfinished in some areas and have had to be repaired in several places. The contractor 's made a offer but said since they passed inspection they weren't responsible. We have had to make an additional claim within a year of their inspected construction for a pipe burst in the kitchen of the property because of inadequate insulation. How can we recover the necessary funds to repair and finish the original and requested scope of work?
I agree with Mr. Levin's comments that if there was a bond, then you should make a request on the contractor for that bond, if not previously provided. I would still recommend that you contact an attorney to discuss the details as that would be most efficient in understanding the complete scope of the issues and helping to answer the questions.
