We were led up until the day the contractor admitted he filed for bankruptcy, he had us pay him partial and did nothing. We do not know how to proceed but been looking for legal action. we are out almost 90k and with nothing to show, we even contacted the subcontractors like the kitchen cabinet designer who told us he never gave them a dime. we also called city building and safety who stated he still owed 1k for permits. I am so stressed out over this and don't know what to do.
You should retain bankruptcy counsel to make sure you are notified as a creditor and can make a creditor's claim. And, contact the contractor's bond company to see about making a bond claim. You can also file a complaint with the CSLB.
