The guy that we contracted, hasn't paid one of the guys he hired, and that guy came to us and said he's going to take legal action to get that payment.

Potentially, yes... but there are so many moving parts to this question. It is unlikely that a disgruntled employee is actually an employee or did anything to secure lien rights. Even if they did, the prime contractor should be the responsible party. The employee would likely need to expend considerable resources to file a lien that may be defective. It would be prudent to let your contractor know that its employee is complaining and making legal threats.
