Can I pre-lien a property in another state if the general contractor is located in the same state I am in?

UtahPreliminary NoticeRight to Lien

My company provides floor coverings. One of our sales people has sold a job (with some labor) to a local contractor. However, the property being built on is in an adjoining state. There are a number of units being done, and tens of thousands of dollars involved. How can we pre-lien an out-of-state property?

Sending preliminary notices for out of state jobs shouldn't be too much of an uphill battle! The mechanics lien laws of the project location will apply. So, if the job is located in Utah, then Utah's preliminary notice rules should be followed - and you can read all about those here: (1) Utah Preliminary Notice Guide and FAQs; and (2) How Do You File a Preliminary Notice in Utah? If your project is located in some other state, you can learn all about that state's notice requirements by selecting the state here: Map of Preliminary Notice Requirements Across the U.S. Plus, keep in mind that online platforms - including Levelset - can make it easier to comply with notice and lien requirements across the county. If that's something you're interested in, you can start that process here: Send a Notice.
