Can I get my lumber that I paid for from a job that owner told me not to return

KansasConstruction Contract

I started a porch remodel. I had a few other jobs going on at same time. I wasn't on the porch job as much as I should have been. I was trying to contact owner to tell him we needed to remove block foundation and start over. He wouldn't stop by so I could discuss this with him. So I waited for him to get in contact with me. So I did what work I could. Then I went onto another job because I was needing operating cost. Then I contact him 2 weeks later and he said to give him a week or so, he has covid and the residents of the house where porch is have covid to. I said I'm not going in house. i'll be outside. He was like no, don't go there just give him a week. So I knew something was up. I drove by seen others working on job. I contacted him and said I need my lumber back that I brought from my shop. He said no and called police and and got a no contact order. I picked up some of my equipment from police station. But there is lumber that I reuse for forming that he didn't want to get back to me.

It appears that you have an awful lot of moving parts to your predicament. What is the value of lumber you want back? Are you entitled to any compensation for the
labor and materials you provided – or did you get a deposit? Could the owner make a claim against you?

If the value is large enough, I suggest you consult an attorney to determine what your options are and the costs to recover your property.

Lumber value is around $200. He probably owes me another $300 for labor. The cost isn't much, but its the point that matters to me. I want him to understand that he can not do this to contractors doing work for him.
