Did you serve a Notice to Owner within 45 days of starting your work? If you did, and you are still within 90 days of your last date of work, you can still record a lien.
Whether you have the right to file a lien or not, you have a right to be paid for your work. So you may want to consult with an attorney to determine if it is worth suing the general contractor for breach of contract or unjust enrichment.
