Can a mechanic's lien be filed against a property that has been sold to a new owner?

I sold my property and am actively trying to settle a disputed amount of money the general contractor claims I owe. I am willing to pay, but want to have the actual remaining amount verified before paying.

Generally, once a property switches title to a bona fide purchaser for value, any prior mechanic's lien rights that were not filed prior to the contract of sale are extinguished.
