A stop notice on a private project does need to be bonded, but sometimes an unbonded notice served on the construction lender can be effective. For some
large private projects the owner is required to post a payment bond or other securty, which you may also be able to file a claim against. Get legal counsel
ASAP if you are owed substantial funds!!
