Montana Notice of Completion Form

This Montana Notice of Completion form is generally recorded at the completion of work on a construction project. Once filed, a copy of the Notice of Completion must be published for 3 weeks in a newspaper of general circulation in the county where the property is located, and served on any person who provided the owner with a Notice of Right to Claim a Lien.

This document is typically filed by the property owner or their agent to signify the completion of the project. The effect of a properly recorded Notice of Completion is to set the timeframe to file a MT mechanics lien as claims in must be filed within either 90 days from the date of last furnishing, or 90 days after the Notice of Completion was recorded.

Pro Tip: since the date that you last furnished work or materials will almost always be earlier than the date that the project is substantially or finally complete, basing your deadline to file off of your last furnishing date should give you the “completely safe lien period.”
