Guide to filing a mechanics lien in Churchill County

The construction industry is fraught with slow payment, and the fact of the matter is that most contractors will face slow payment issues at some point in their careers. One of the best options out there to combat slow payment is to file a mechanics lien. If you’re looking to file a mechanics lien with the Churchill County Recorder’s Office, this page provides you with valuable information about Nevada lien law and Churchill County’s own requirements.

Here are three things that you should know about Nevada lien law:

  1. Some participants on the construction project may not be able to file a mechanics lien claim in Nevada. If you’re a material supplier or an unlicensed contractor you may not have the right to file a mechanics lien if you need to.
  2. Nevada has preliminary notice requirements. Lien claimants need to send a preliminary notice to the property owner 31 days after first work on the construction project. Otherwise, you could lose your lien rights.
  3. Lien claimants need to send a copy of the lien to the property owner. Much like the preliminary notice, you need to send a copy of the lien itself to the owner. Failure to do this could invalidate your lien claim.
